With new farm tech skills, 472 Dinagat workers came home from SoKor

MindanaoHerald | With new farm tech skills, 472 Dinagat workers came home from SoKor | BUTUAN CITY – Four hundred and seventy-two seasonal workers from the Dinagat Islands are back from working and studying in South Korea after six months. They are ready to put what they have learned about current farming and fishing technologies to use.
Over the weekend, Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. held a gathering to honor the workers who had returned to work. He called them the “new heroes of the province.”
“The money that our seasonal workers sent home helped our towns and even the barangays’ economies grow,” Demerey said on the phone on Monday.
They went to Pyeongchang County, Sokcho, and Yeongwol provinces in South Korea at the beginning of May to work on farms and in the fishing industry.
A big part of their goal was to learn about new ways to farm and fish that they could then use and teach other farmers and fishermen in the province.
A deal that was made in November of last year allowed them to be sent to South Korea. The Provincial Board Members League of the Philippines, the local government of Pyeongchang County, and the Dinagat provincial government all worked together on the event.
The local government will keep working with the seasonal workers who are coming back, especially to help them use the cutting-edge farming and fishing techniques they learned in South Korea, Demerey said.
He said that one of the main goals of the provincial government is to give farmers and fishermen in Dinagat more power by exposing them to foreign opportunities and sharing what they know.
There will also be about 3,000 seasonal workers from the area who fly to South Korea next year to work and study. (via PNA)
