MindanaoHerald | Town of Lanao Sur gets a P25-M civic building | COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) officially gave the sixth-class community of Butig in Lanao del Sur its new two-story town hall earlier this month.
As a result of the peace deal with the government in 2014, Camp Bushra, one of the six Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) camps, was located in Butig.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, BARMM Interior Minister Naguib Sinarimbo said, “May this building, which stands for good government and the unity of our people, also be a center for services for our constituents.”
“Butig shows that we are committed to staying true to our roots while also planning a bright new future for our region,” he said.
At the handover ceremony on Sunday, the mayors of both provinces and Governors Bombit Adiong Jr. of Lanao del Sur and Abdulraof Macacua of Maguindanao del Norte were present.
As stated in a statement, Adiong praised the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (BARMM) for giving Butig and other Lanao del Sur towns top priority in its local government development programs and projects.
Maute brothers, who led the 2017 siege of Marawi, are from Butig.
Others that used to be MILF hideouts are Camps Abubakar, Badre, and Omar (Maguindanao), Camp Rajamuda (North Cotabato/Maguindanao), and Camp Bilal (Lanao provinces). (via PNA)
