MindanaoHerald | For the 2024 solid waste management scheme, the CDO City Council has set aside P220 billion | CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Recycling properly can save money for local governments if businesses and people follow the rules.
There were problems across the country with most local government units (LGUs) not following the rules in Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act, according to First District Councilor Roger Abaday.
Even though RA 9003 has been a rule since 2001, Abaday and his coworkers have had to push for the city to be one of the leaders in solid waste management in the country.
In 2024, he said, the City Council had set a budget of PHP220 million to make solid waste management go more smoothly.
About 50 million Philippine pesos will be used to maintain and run the Barangay Pagalungan dump.
It’s to show people that we care about the environment, he said, adding that if the community implemented solid waste management, it would lower costs and require less garbage to be picked up.
Within the budget for waste management, the City Local and Environment Resources Office will get better, with new features such as information and education programs in all 80 villages. (via PNA)
