MindanaoHerald | Vice President Sara conducts the ‘Brigada’ in remote Davao schools | DAVAO CITY — Vice President and Department of Education Secretary Sara Duterte led the Brigada Eskwela events in three far-flung schools in this city on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Office of the Vice President said that Duterte visited Tapak Elementary School in Barangay Tapak, Gumitan Elementary School in Barangay Gumitan, and Dominga Elementary School in Barangay Dominga.

“The towns were once run by the New People’s Army. “We are happy to help the people of the three barangays get their schools ready for the start of classes,” Duterte said in a separate Facebook post.

On Tuesday, the Vice President also went to the Governor Vicente Duterte National High School. There, she helped paint classroom tables and worked with teachers, parents, students, and volunteers to clean, paint, and cut grass around the school.

“I emphasised that our goal is to have clean, well-run schools. I also call on the Bayanihan spirit of the Filipino people to help get our schools ready for the next school year,” Duterte said.

Duterte has said that Brigada Eskwela 2023 is a call to all parties involved in education to work together to make sure that schools are functional, clean, and in order for the students.

Jerez Baltunado, the director of Dominga Elementary School, said that Duterte’s visit was an inspiration and a source of encouragement for the students and the whole community.

“I am shocked and honoured that the Vice President and Education Secretary came to check on the Brigada Eskwela. All in all, it can give us a better idea of how to move forward and do better in the days to come,” he said.

On Thursday, the Vice President will also join the Brigada Eskwela at the Vicente Duterte Elementary School in Bansalan town, Davao del Sur province.(via PNA)
