MindanaoHerald | 66K elderly poor Davao residents receive pensions “in advance” | DAVAO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Davao Region (DSWD-11) is giving 66,702 poor senior citizens here their social income for July to December 2023 early.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday, Ezri Coda Jr., information officer for the DSWD-11 social marketing unit, said that the Aug. 7–18 refund is for seniors in the three districts of the city.

There are 17,579 recipients in District 1, 21,682 in District 2, and 27,441 in District 3.

Coda said, “It’s PHP500 per month, and they’ll get PHP3,000 over six months.”

Under Republic Act 9994, also called the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, senior citizens who qualify will get PHP500 per month, which will be given to them every three months.

But under Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 17, series of 2022, the social pension was changed from being paid every three months to being paid twice a year.

Coda said that the semestral social pension payment makes sure that seniors who are fragile get the help they need, which improves their health and quality of life.

“As soon as the distribution period starts, seniors who are eligible should go to the designated payout centres to get their money,” he said.(via PNA)
