MindanaoHerald | BARMM gives the go-ahead for 8 new towns | COTABATO CITY – The 63 villages in North Cotabato province that joined the autonomous system in 2019 were divided into eight municipalities by legislation that the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) members adopted Thursday night.

Four years after they opted to join the Bangsamoro region, residents from the 63 barangays known as the Special Geographic Area in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (SGA-BARMM) are anticipated to profit and have access to basic amenities.

The 80-member BTA parliament, the region’s interim legislative body, unanimously approved BTA Bill Nos. 129 to 136 during their third and final reading on Thursday night. These bills are intended to create the planned municipalities.

Pahamuddin, Kadayangan, Nabalawag, Old Kabakan, Kapalawan, Malidegao, Tugunan, and Ligawasan are the proposed towns’ names.

According to parliamentary officials, the measures’ passage demonstrates Ahod Balawag Ebrahim’s dedication to prioritising the interests and ambitions of SGA inhabitants.

Earlier, Ebrahim encouraged the MPs to expedite the adoption of crucial BTA initiatives, such as the establishment of new towns in the SGA region.

As part of their quest for self-determination and aspirations for peace and development in their communities, the 63 barangays decided in 2019 to join the BARMM.

These settlements are located in the North Cotabato towns of Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Midsayap, Pikit, and Pigcawayan.

Mohammad Kelie Antao, a member of the BTA, expressed his joy in an interview, saying that “it is time for the BARMM government to extend its favour to the SGA residents who made the difficult decision to leave their original municipalities and join the fledgling region.”(via PNA)
