MindanaoHerald | Awards are given to 108 of Dinagat’s top high school students | BUTUAN CITY – On Friday, the local government of Dinagat Islands gave cash rewards to 108 senior high school students who had done especially well in school.
In an interview on Saturday, Governor of the Dinagat Islands Nilo Demerey Jr. said that the cash rewards for doing well in school can inspire other kids to work harder and do even better.
Out of the 108 top achievers who got rewards, 46 were named top 1 achievers and 62 were named top 2 achievers.
The top 1 finishers each got PHP5,000, and the top 2 finishers each got PHP3,000.
Demerey said, “This program is thought to motivate our high school students to set higher goals and work harder on their jobs.”
He also said that the rewards would make high school kids feel better about themselves.
He said, “The provincial government hopes that our students will also develop a positive attitude toward their studies and encourage them to look into other academic opportunities.”
The things that parents do for their kids make them proud. “We also see this activity as a way to thank the parents who come to school to see their kids’ hard work pay off,” Demerey said. (via PNA)
