Minimum wage workers in Agusan Norte get help from AKAP

Mindanaoherald | Minimum wage workers in Agusan Norte get help from AKAP | BUTUAN CITY – Under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP), at least 1,905 people from six towns and one city in Agusan del Norte each got PHP3,000 in cash help on Wednesday.
After the program started on May 18, this was the second payment in the region through the AKAP.
Kitcharao, Jabonga, Santiago, Tubay, Magallanes, Remedios T., Romualdez, and Cabadbaran City were the places that got help from the program this time.
While working as a security guard in Cabadbaran City, Marlon asked to remain anonymous. He said this was his first time getting help from the DSWD because other programs usually don’t let him because he makes minimum wage.
I was shocked at first to learn that the government had set up a scheme to help people who make the minimum wage. After being quizzed and being put on the list, Marlon, 32, knew the information was correct.
A 24 year old woman from Santiago town named Celia also got help from AKAP. She said that a friend who got help on May 18 told her to ask about the program at the local government unit.
“The economic crisis has hurt my family as well as me because I’m a working mom making the minimum wage.” What she said, “The AKAP help I get will meet the needs of my family, especially my three children.”
Dale Corvera, 2nd District Representative for Agusan del Norte, helped get the AKAP funds released. He joined DSWD staff in the Caraga Region for the award event.
For helping us with the starting fund of PHP9 million for the second district of Agusan del Norte to help 3,000 people, Corvera said, “I thank President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.”
As of May 18, he said that the program also gave PHP3,000 to 500 people from the towns of Buenavista, Nasipit, and Carmen.
Still to be planned in the area is a third group of 550 AKAP recipients. (via PNA)
