MindanaoHerald | 43 schools in Davao will gain from “Project Electrical Lab.” | DAVAO CITY – A program has helped at least 43 secondary schools in Davao City and some parts of Davao del Norte by setting up modern electrical installation and maintenance (EIM) labs where students can learn new skills and get national certification.
Most recently, on Monday, the J.V. Ferriols National High School and the Optaciano Hilay National High School in Davao City were given an EIM facility during a celebration.
According to Rodger Velasco, president and chief operating officer of Davao Light, the “Project Electrical Lab” project, which began in 2014, is part of the company’s support for the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track.
Through the Aboitiz Foundation Inc., the company’s social development arm, the program aims to give high school students places to learn new skills and get tested. Those who complete the course will be able to get a National Certification II from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Each electrical repair and installation lab costs PHP1.3 million.
“We want to make a value where we do more than just follow the rules when it comes to CSR projects.” In an interview, Velasco said, “We want a chance to learn more, gain experience, and work in a good environment.”
His statement added that the project also wants to help reach the fourth Sustainable Development Goal set by the United Nations: “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” (via PNA)
