MindanaoHerald | VP Sara talks about the role of kids as environmental stewards and future leaders | DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Z. Duterte told young Filipinos on Tuesday that they need to take care of the environment and become future leaders of the country.
“As the world faces a climate disaster, we must recognise that young people can make a difference. Duterte said in a statement, “By emphasising the importance of “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” we can encourage the next generation of Filipinos to reduce their carbon footprints and protect natural resources.”
Duterte said that the Office of the Vice President had started the Pagbabago: A Million Learners and Trees Campaign with the Department of Education, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and other partners to get Filipinos from all walks of life to plant a million trees by 2028.
“This week, we recognise and celebrate the youth’s talent, creativity, and potential to make good changes and build a better future for our country. “May you continue to use your voices and skills and be good examples for your friends, families, and communities,” she told them.
The Vice President also told the young people that they should use their knowledge to help people who are most in need.
She said, “Let’s work together to build communities that are healthier and more resilient, based on our shared values of inclusion, diversity, peace, and sustainability.”
Section 30 of the Sanggunian Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, or Republic Act No. 10742, says that Linggo ng Kabataan must be celebrated on August 12, which is also International Youth Day.
Local government units are doing a variety of things to mark Linggo ng Kabataan 2023.
In this city, the Linggo ng Kabataan celebration started with the first-ever Davao City Junior Officials search, which was put on by the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO).
Gilda Salvaa, who is in charge of the CSWDO’s Children’s Welfare and Youth Division, said that it is one of the best parts of the Linggo ng Kabataan, in which young people ages 13 to 17 serve as mayor, vice mayor, city councillors, and department heads at City Hall.(via PNA)
