MindanaoHerald | Bangsamoro Science High School is approved by BTA-BARMM | COTABATO CITY – A proposal establishing the Bangsamoro Science High School was approved by the Bangsamoro parliament on Monday night, providing nearby educational opportunities for pupils interested in professions in science and technology.

The Bangsamoro Science High School (BSHS) System Act of 2023 was passed by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), the regional legislative body of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

BTA Speaker Pangalian Balindong said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision shows the BTA’s dedication to giving Bangsamoro children the chance to thrive in science and technology without having to go beyond the area for their education.

According to him, the passed measure seeks to establish a facility on par with the prestigious Philippine Science High School.

The school will not only focus on science and technology but also combine the values of education and Arabic studies into its curriculum, according to BTA member Engr. Aida Silongan, concurrent minister of the region’s Ministry of Science and Technology.

According to Silongan, the special combination is intended to foster a solid basis for science instruction while fostering faith in Bangsamoro students.

BARMM will first set aside PHP55 million for the implementation, which will involve site acquisition, the building of dormitories, and fencing. Through the use of a Special Development Fund, the money for the school’s physical structure will be raised.

The bill originally named Parang town in Maguindanao del Norte as the site of the school, but local politicians have yet to make decisions after conducting thorough assessments of the feasibility, seismic study, disaster resistance, and maintenance of a peaceful atmosphere.

By 2025, it is intended to enrol the first class of freshmen.

Officials stated that plans are in the works to replicate the BSHS model in the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi as well as in the BARMM Special Geographic Area in North Cotabato in order to make the science high school available to more Bangsamoro people.

63 Muslim-populated communities in North Cotabato chose to join the autonomous system in a two-part vote that took place in January and February of 2019. These villages are referred to as SGA.

The BSHS System Act requires gender equality and inclusivity, the adoption of policies and programmes that foster a welcoming learning environment, and the provision of assistance and equitable opportunities for all teachers and students, regardless of gender.

Comprehensive support, including free housing, tuition, and instructional materials, will be provided to qualified students.

The rewards for qualified students, the location of the school, and the number of students to be accommodated from each region are just a few of the things that will be outlined in the rules and regulations that will be put into place for the school.
