MindanaoHerald | VP Sara is in charge of giving flood victims in Davao help | DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Z. Duterte went to Barangay Bago Aplaya in this city on Friday to see the flood victims herself.
She said in an interview that the Office of the Vice President (OVP) gave money to families who were hurt by the quick and widespread flooding on Wednesday night.
Duterte is in Davao City for the signing event of the Records of Discussion for the Comprehensive and Sustainable Urban Development Master Plan for Metropolitan Davao. This is an agreement between the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the National Economic and Development Authority.
After flooding hit eight towns, the City Disaster Reduction Risk Management Office (CDRRMO) said that 127 families, or 454 people, had to be moved to safer areas.
As Duterte put it, “we visited them and gave them money.”
Also, she said that the OVP-Satellite office here would also help the flood victims.
Thursday, Alfredo Baloran, the head of the CDRRMO, told the press that localized thunderstorm warnings should always be watched because they show the general weather and the type of rain that will fall in certain areas.
“We may see moderate to heavy rain along with these localized thunderstorms,” he said. “They also come with strong winds and thunderstorms.”
He told people in Dabawen to stay alert, check weather warnings right away, leave, and make sure they are safe if it rains for more than an hour.
People who live in low-lying places near creeks should also pay close attention to the weather, he said.(via PNA)
