MindanaoHerald | Two female centenarians from GenSan are awarded P100,000 | KORONADAL CITY – Two female centenarians in General Santos City received cash incentives from the city administration on Thursday afternoon. The recipients shared their secrets to longevity.

When asked for advice on how to reach her age, Cecilia Custodio, a centenarian from Barangay Dadiangas South, said that a healthy lifestyle and a supportive family are essential.

Custodio stated that consuming more vegetables than meat is beneficial for one’s health.

On the other hand, Exaltacion Gonzalez, another centenarian from Barangay Katangawan, said that regular exercise had enabled her to live to 100.

In particular, Exaltacion claimed that “daily walking” kept her bones and muscles pain-free.

During the basic awarding ceremonies, the city’s social welfare office presented each recipient with PHP100,000.

“Achieving 100 years of age is an indication of early good health, and our city mayor is pleased to learn that more senior citizens are becoming centenarians,” said City Hall representative Nikki Kristine Catolico, who represented City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao at the awarding.

Edwin Espejo, the National Commission of Senior Citizens Regional Cluster No. 7 commissioner-in-charge who also attended the awarding, stated that his office is in the process of determining the exact number of senior citizens in the city and Region 12 in order to compile an accurate database of senior citizens in the region.

In accordance with the Centenarian Act or Republic Act 10868, the national government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, gives centenarians PHP100,000 in funds.(via PNA)
