MindanaoHerald | The CDO votes to give PWDs a monthly payment of P500 | CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – After a law was passed, low-income people with disabilities (PWDs) here will get a PHP500 monthly allowance.
In a statement released on Thursday, the head of the City PWD Affairs Office, Ma. Liza Corpuz, said that the monthly payment will become a reality after the 20th City Council passed Ordinance No. 2023-274, or the “Social Pension for Poor Adults and Children with Disabilities,” early this week.
Corpuz said that PWDs must have lived in the city for at least two years and have proof that they are poor in order to apply. The law also applies to disabled children younger than 18 years old.
“This is what she said she would do when she took her oath of office. Kagawad Girlie deserves a lot of credit. Corpuz, who is also a PWD, thanked you for keeping your word.
Corpuz was talking about Councillor Joyleen Mercedes Balaba of the 2nd District, who wrote most of the law.
Balaba said that the law will help more than 2,000 disabled people in the city who are poor.
The social pension will start next year, but the City Social Welfare and Development, the Philippine Statistics Agency, and the City Planning Office are still figuring out how many people will be eligible.(via PNA)
