Mindanaoherald | Leaders of the Caraga region urge unity in order to achieve genuine harmony and growth | BUTUAN CITY – Leaders in the Caraga Region on Wednesday urged Filipinos to unite in order to achieve sincere peace and development, in conjunction with the commemoration of the 126th Independence Day.
In order to continue to pursue our aspirations, let us unite as a single province. Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers issued a message in which he encouraged all individuals to collaborate in the development of their communities and the pursuit of sustainable peace and development.
Barbers was also accompanied by Surigao City Mayor Pablo Yves Dumlao II and the Army’s 4th Infantry Division commander, Maj. Gen. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, during the Independence Day commemoration in Surigao City.
In Surigao del Sur, Governor Alexander Pimentel urged his constituents to collaborate in order to sustain the progress made in peace and development initiatives in the province, which has been impacted by the communist insurgency that has persisted for decades.
“I am sending my most sincere regards to all Surigaonons and Filipinos throughout the nation as we commemorate the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day today. Pimentel expressed his hope that this momentous occasion will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our forebears and heroines in order to preserve our freedom.
The wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Rizal Monument in the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center in Barangay Patin-ay, Prosperidad town, by Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane Jr., District Reps. Alfelito Bascug, and Eddiebong Plaza.
“We acquired our independence and freedom at the cost of the lives of our forebears.” “We have faced challenges that have put our faith, courage, and unity as a nation to the test over the years,” Cane stated.
He stated that Filipinos have surmounted obstacles, particularly colonization, which symbolizes the nation’s “courage, bravery, and unity.”
The flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Butuan City was led by Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante and 2nd District Rep. Dale Corvera in Agusan del Norte.
The event, which is also a component of the weeklong commemoration of the 57th founding anniversary of Agusan del Norte, featured traditional dances, music, and songs from a variety of tribes in the province, including the Manobo, Mamanwa, and Higaonon.
Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. urged Dinagatnons in the Province of Dinagat Islands to emulate the lives of the country’s national heroes and to appreciate the sacrifices of the country’s new heroes, the Overseas Filipino Workers.
Kalayaan Jobs Fair
Meanwhile, the Kalayaan Jobs Fair in Butuan City was inaugurated by the Department of Labor and Employment in the Caraga Region (DOLE-13). A total of 4,850 local and international employment opportunities were advertised by 57 employers. (via PNA)
