MindanaoHerald | Environmentalists want a campaign before BSKE | DAVAO CITY – In a statement released Tuesday, Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability Inc. (IDIS) asked local candidates to make environmentally friendly campaign materials and plans a top priority.
Before the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 campaign time starts next month, the green group said in a statement that it expects a big rise in campaign materials, especially campaign banners and disposable items.
This increase in materials could make our problems with trash management, plastic pollution, and climate change worse, the group said.
IDIS instead suggested that candidates use less paper and plastic when communicating with voters on social media sites by choosing eco-friendly options.
Plus, candidates can make the most of more standard ways of campaigning, like using jingles, visual performances, and other similar methods, the statement said.
To stop natural damage caused by political activities, they also asked the Commission on Elections and the local government units to support policies and procedures.
Additionally, candidates were told not to stick posters directly on trees or other natural objects.
Either candidates or voters should not throw away campaign papers. (via PNA)
