Mindanaoherald | Communities in Surigao Norte will get P23.4-M in projects from DSWD | BUTUAN CITY – Seven towns and one city in Surigao del Norte have already received 58 livelihood projects under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13).
The SLP projects were disseminated during the distribution operations that took place this year from May 30th to June 15th, according to a Monday statement from the DSWD-13.
Program participants in Surigao del Norte were intended to have their socio-economic conditions improved through 58 SLP and PAMANA projects valued at a total of PHP23,445,000, according to the agency.
Additionally, the initiatives in Surigao del Norte’s Alegria, Mainit, Tubod, Tagana-an, San Francisco, Malimono, and Surigao City would directly benefit about 1,671 program participants.
Furthermore, 987 farmers in five barangays in Tubay, Agusan del Norte, who were adversely impacted by El Niño were also reported to have received family food packs (FFPs) from the DSWD-13.
According to the organization, the purpose of the food supplement was to provide assistance to the local farming communities whose crops were badly damaged by the El Niño-induced extended drought.
The distribution exercise that took place last Friday saw the arrival of boxes of FFP for every farmer in Barangays Sta. Ana, Doña Telesfora, Doña Rosario, Victory, and Tagmamarkay.
The fisherfolk in the coastal barangays of Tubay, whose livelihoods were also affected by the long drought, will continue to receive the same support in the coming weeks, according to the DSWD. (via PNA)
