Newly elected SK officials in North Cotabato are trained by DILG

MindanaoHerald | Newly elected SK officials in North Cotabato are trained by DILG | KIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) here began training on Monday for 3,480 newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in North Cotabato province. So far, 272 of them have finished the course.
The first group of SK officials from Matalam town started their three-day training on Saturday. The DILG, the Provincial Governor’s Office-Provincial Youth Development Division, and the local government unit all worked together to make it happen.
“The goal of the activity is to teach new leaders useful skills so they can serve their communities well,” said Ali Abdullah, the provincial director of DILG.
Abdullah said that some of the things that will be talked about are decentralization and local government, the history of SK and its most important parts, meetings and decisions, planning and budgeting, and the code of conduct and moral standards.
The youth leaders will learn about these things so that they can “do their duties and responsibilities well.”
There are 480 barangays in North Cotabato right now, if you don’t count the 36 villages that are now part of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. This city and 17 towns are in its jurisdiction.
In a statement released Monday, Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza said she supported training the young leaders, pointing out that they needed to improve their skills in order to write strong laws and effective interventions for their field.
“The SK government and the provincial government will always work together to make sure that all young Cotabateños have fair and better opportunities,” she said. (via PNA)
