Mindanaoherald | Local party: Davao model for safety and security | DAVAO CITY – The city is well on its way to establishing higher benchmarks in urban safety, according to the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political organization based here.
This occurred subsequent to the city’s designation as the second-safest city in Southeast Asia by Numbeo’s 2023 Southeast Asia Safety Index.
Davao City, with a safety index score of 7.2, was situated just behind Chiang Mai City in Thailand, which secured the top position with a score of 72.5. Singapore City in Singapore was in third place with a score of 70.8.
“This recognition elevates Davao City to the forefront of other significant Southeast Asian cities that are renowned for their safety and livability.” The group stated in a late-night statement on Tuesday that this underscores Davao City’s ongoing dedication to safety and security.
The organization asserted that the city has been acknowledged for its effective emergency response systems, community policing initiatives, and stringent public safety protocols for an extended period of time.
“This acknowledgment contributes to Davao City’s expanding list of accomplishments and establishes it as a regional model for safety and security.” It stated, “With its effective governance and strong community spirit.”
Makati (6th place), Iloilo (8th place), and Quezon (19th place) were also included in Numbeo’s list.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that the aggregate number of crime incidents in the locality decreased by 3.93 percent from January to May 2024 compared to the same period last year, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of its residents.
Index crimes decreased by 28.4 percent, or 1,795 incidents, while non-index crimes decreased by 1.93 percent.
Col. Rolando Suguilon, the DCPO officer-in-charge, stated, “DCPO is dedicated to providing the city with the utmost safety and security.” (via PNA)
