MindanaoHerald | First National Invitational Boat Racing in Dinagat is dominated by Samar boatmen | BUTUAN CITY – The 1st National Invitational Boat Racing, which took place in the Dinagat Islands, was won by runners from Borongan, Samar, on Sunday.
The “Battle of the Brands” race, which took place from Sept. 28 to 29, was one of the primary events preceding the Bugkosan Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 2.
Dinagat Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. issued a statement on Monday, stating that the Battle of the Brands is of profound cultural significance to the residents of Dinagat as they commemorate this year’s Bugkosan Festival.
Celebrating the 18th anniversary of Dinagat’s establishment as a province, Bugkosan signifies “to unite.”
The championship reward of PHP300,000 was awarded to Pocholo Gaed of Team KFJ from Borongan, who secured the first place and utilized a KTEC 20-horsepower engine.
Team Ellemar from Santa Maria, Davao Occidental, was awarded PHP100,000 for being the second runner-up, while Team Doremon from Panabo City, Davao del Norte, achieved the first runner-up title and received PHP200,000.
In third place, Team Sports Pacific from Maasim, Sarangani, was awarded PHP50,000.
The boat race, which was attended by fifteen teams from various regions of the nation, served as an incentive for tourists to visit the island during the festivities.
The Stationary Dance Competition, which will be held on Oct. 2, the anniversary of Dinagat’s foundation, will be one of the many events at the Bugkosan Festival. Five groups from various towns will be showcasing their unique talents. Also scheduled for October 1 is Governor Demerey’s State of the Province Address. (via PNA)
