Kochi-based deep-tech company demonstrates indigenous marine robotics as it targets international applications
KOCHI, India — An underwater robotic system developed in Kochi recently took center stage at a high-profile technology exhibition held alongside the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, highlighting India’s growing capabilities in deep-tech and marine robotics.
The technology was presented by EyeROV, an Indian deep-tech company developing robotic systems designed to make underwater inspection and marine operations safer, more efficient and less dependent on human divers working in challenging environments.
At the Bharat Innovates Exposition, organized by India’s Ministry of Education as part of the BRICS Summit program, EyeROV’s exhibition pavilion received visits from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
EyeROV Co-founder and CEO Johns T. Mathai demonstrated the company’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technology and discussed potential applications spanning infrastructure inspection, defense, maritime security and scientific research.
Taking Robotics Into the Underwater Environment
Infrastructure located underwater can present significant challenges for inspection and maintenance.
Dams, bridges, ports, offshore facilities and other marine assets often require specialized equipment to inspect structures that are difficult or dangerous for people to reach.
EyeROV develops robotic and intelligent subsea technologies intended to allow operators to examine underwater assets, gather visual and operational data, and use that information to support maintenance and infrastructure decisions.
The company’s technology portfolio includes Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) and specialized marine inspection systems, along with AI-based tools for analyzing underwater data.
These technologies are designed for applications in sectors including infrastructure, energy, defense, maritime security and marine research.
Showcasing Indian Deep-Tech
For EyeROV, the BRICS-related exhibition provided an opportunity to demonstrate Indian-developed marine robotics to an international audience.
Johns T. Mathai said:
“It is an absolute honor to showcase our indigenous marine robotics technology to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and global leaders at the BRICS Summit. This interaction underscores the immense potential of Indian deep-tech startups on the world stage, as we continue to push boundaries in underwater robotics, safety, and infrastructure inspection.”
