MindanaoHerald | DTI provides funding to four cities in Caraga for the establishment of creative centres | BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has provided funding and technical assistance to four cities in the Caraga Region in order to convert their creative assets into centres for local artists and creatives.

According to Banawe Corvera-Curato, spokesperson for DTI-13, the communities of Surigao, Bislig, Bayugan, and Butuan have collectively received PHP5.6 million as part of the DTI’s “Lunsod Lunsad” initiative.

Bislig City, which received PHP2 million, initiated its “Lunsod Lunsad: Pabibo sa Baywalk” on Sept. 9. The festival, which includes the Tinuy-an Sayaw Festival, art competitions, and nightly events, will continue until Sept. 18, according to Corvera-Curato.

Butuan City, which also received PHP2 million, will conduct a series of events from Sept. 13 to Nov. 13, including the Balangay Independent Film and Theatre Festival and a trophy sculpture design competition.

Additionally, Surigao City (PHP699,000) and Bayugan City (PHP935,000) will organize their own creative events, including poetry competitions, cultural performances, and arts and crafts exhibits.

Surigao and Bislig have already finalized their agreements with DTI, while Butuan and Bayugan are still in the process of doing so.

During the 2024 Lunsod Lunsad awarding ceremony in August, the four cities are among the 63 nationwide that were recognized. (via PNA)
