MindanaoHerald | DSWD gives each of Davao’s 182 rice sellers a P15,000 grant | DAVAO CITY – The Sustainable Livelihood Programme (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will give cash help of PHP15,000 to at least 182 small rice retailers on September 13 and 14. This was announced by the Department of Trade and Industry in Davao Region (DTI-11) on Wednesday.
Romeo Castaaga, assistant director of DTI-11, said that the number of users was based on a check they did last week.
“We gave the list to DSWD because they are in charge of the SLP. “DSWD may also add more people to its list of beneficiaries next week,” Castaaga said at a press conference here.
He said that the PHP15,000 aid was figured as the most that could be given to micro-enterprises that sell rice for losses that happened for at least seven days after EO 39 went into effect.
During the first week of the agency’s tracking, less than half of the rice stores in the Davao Region were found to be following the rules, according to Castaaga.
“This week, we’ll be checking to see if [the number] went up and if they’re following the rules,” he said.
Analisa Fabregas, who sells rice at the Toril Public Market in this city, got the PHP15,000 rice subsidy on Wednesday. She thanked the national government for the help and promised to follow Executive Order 39, which caps the price of rice.
Under Executive Order 39, which went into action on September 5, the most that regular milled rice could cost was PHP41 per kilo, while the most that well-milled rice could cost was PHP45 per kilo. (via PNA)
