MindanaoHerald | Direct flights from other countries to Davao have been brought back | DAVAO CITY – Several foreign flights will start flying again in the city in October, the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) said on Wednesday.
Investigator Jennifer Romero, who is in charge of the CTOO, said in an interview that direct flights between Davao and Jinjiang and between Davao and Hong Kong will start up again on October 8 and 29, respectively.
Royal Air will start flying between Davao and Hong Kong and back again, according to Romero. Xiamen Air will also start flying directly between Davao and Jinjiang again.
She said that the flight between Davao and Hong Kong would happen twice a week, on Thursday and Sunday, and the flight between Davao and Jinjiang would happen on Wednesday and Sunday.
If direct flights to Hong Kong and Jinjiang start up again, Romero thinks that the city’s tourism industry will grow enough to make up for the number of tourists who left during the 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic.
Direct flights to Hong Kong and Jinjiang will also continue. The direct flight from Davao to Singapore, which started up again in October of last year, will also continue under Scoot. This is because Singapore Airlines, the parent company of Scoot, will stop running that flight on October 31.
Qatar Airways also started flying again between Davao and Doha earlier this year.
Romero also said that the city is working with local tour companies to sell flight or tour packages to Chinese tourists from Taiwan. This is one way that the city is trying to make the flight routes more sustainable.
