MindanaoHerald | 1st PH Durian Summit will bring together experts on good farming methods | DAVAO CITY – The first-ever Philippine Asia Durian Summit will take place at the SMX Convention Center here from Oct. 25 to 27. Seven foreign resource speakers from different parts of the world will talk about how to effectively manage cultures and farms.
In an interview on Monday, Emmanuel Belviz, head of the Durian Industry Association of Davao City, said that James Wong from Thailand and Lim Chin Khee from Malaysia will talk about the best ways to grow durian in their own countries.
The Malaysian Anna Teo will talk about the most important parts of the Regulation of Agricultural Imports in China, as well as Durian Frozen and Packaging Technology. The Malaysian Dr. Tan Sue Sian will go into more detail about Precision Farming: Internet of Things in Durian.
“Potential and Emergence of Durian Agro-tourism” in Malaysia will be talked about by Johnny Ting, and “Exploring Culture Through Durian Tourism” will be talked about by Lindsay Gasik from the US.
On the other hand, Hajime Yasumoto from Japan will talk about “Change for Environment: From Enriching Soils to Enriching Farmers’ and Consumers’ Lives,” Belviz said.
Belviz said that the summit aims to be a place where durian experts and fans from around the world can share their ideas and thoughts, as well as a place where people can work together and form relationships.
“Cultivation, Innovation, and Collaboration” was the theme of the event, which he said came right after the sending of 18 metric tons of Philippine durian to the People’s Republic of China on April 6 of this year.
“What we want is for more doors to open in the industry.” “The event will include plenary sessions, an exhibit, an open forum, and a field tour,” Belviz explained.
He also said that the summit would include the newest types of machinery, improvements in how durians are grown and how farms work, as well as worries and problems facing the export industry as a whole.
“Remember that President Ferdinand Marcos (Jr.) promised to send 50,000 metric tons (MT) of durian.” Belviz said, “I think it is possible if many of our durian farmers learn how to do good farming.”
Another country has bought 2,690 MT of fresh durian and 2,752 MT of frozen durian from the country since January of this year. (via PNA)
