Mindanaoherald | Daughter of a farmer receives engineering degree as BARMM scholar | COTABATO CITY – A Bangsamoro farmer in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is very thankful to a government program that helped his daughter get a degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.

In Barangay Dungguan, Nabalawag, Mhads Motalib grows rice and corn. He was so happy to see his daughter Darwisa march toward the stage at the recent commencement ceremonies at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

In a radio appearance on Tuesday, Motalib said in sign language, “My heart is full of joy for my daughter.”

One of the eight new towns in the BARMM-Special Geographic Area is Nabalawag.

Motalib thanked the Ministry of Social Services and Development for helping his daughter with money during the pandemic, when he was barely making enough to live on.

“I hope that more students from poor families will get help from you,” he told the group.

Darwisa was one of the poor kids who got help from the “Angat Bangsamoro: Kabataan Tungo sa Karunungan” (ABaKa, which means “Rise Bangasamoro: Rise Toward Knowledge”) program.

One of the thousands of students who got through college with the help of a government grant program also had a happy ending.

It was very helpful for me to get this scholarship grant because all three of my children are in college. My child would not have been able to reach her goals without this training. It was Motalib.

Dawisa said she was excited to take the tests for license so she could follow her dream of becoming a real engineer. (via PNA)
