Mindanao Herald | Caraga farmers will get access to more markets through a coffee event | BUTUAN CITY – Robusta coffee farmers in the Caraga Region are getting a boost from an event that is going on here for a week.

At the 2nd Caraga Coffee Festival, which runs from September 2 to 8 at Robinsons Mall here, twelve groups of Robusta farmers show off their goods.

The Department of Trade and Industry – Caraga Region (DTI-13) and the Department of Agriculture (DA-13) are in charge of it.

In an interview on Monday, Dailin Mamalis, coordinator of the DA-13 high-value crops development programme, said, “Showcasing the coffee products of the region will give our farmers business opportunities and even markets for their products.”

Mamalis said that at least 5,048 hectares of land in the area are already used to grow Robusta coffee by 2,800 farmers.

During the week-long event, the Café Exhibit, the Latte Art and Brewer’s Cup Competition, the Coffee Quality Competition, and farm tours are some of the most important things to do.

“There will be professional coffee bean, roasting, and quality graders from Mindanao and all over the country at the festival,” Mamalis said. “Most of them will be judges during the competitions.”

She also said that the graders will help get the word out to other parts of the country about the coffee goods in the area.

Also, on the last day of the event, buyers and business groups from Mindanao will meet with Robusta farmers for a market matching activity.

The head of the Caraga Coffee Council, Nilo Calipayan, thanked the government for continuing to help out coffee farmers.
