Cagayan de Oro makes quality, well-milled rice at lower prices

MindanaoHerald | Cagayan de Oro makes quality, well-milled rice at lower prices | CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government unit (LGU) here started selling rice on Monday at prices that are much lower than what Executive Order (EO) 39 says they can be.
Jose Edgardo Uy, who is in charge of the City Regulatory Compliance Board, said that the effort to keep rice prices low will take place from September 11 to 15.
“This is done with the help of the Department of Trade and Industry and the City Price Coordinating Council, which is led by Mayor (Rolando) Uy,” he said.
Under EO 39, the most that can be charged for regular rice and well-milled rice is PHP41 and PHP45 per kilogramme, respectively.
But the LGU sells well-milled local rice for PHP43 per kilogramme and premium rice for PHP45 per kilogramme, which is cheaper than the prices for premium rice, which start at PHP46 per kilogramme.
Uy said that buyers can only buy 5 kg per day to make sure that everyone gets the same amount. (via PNA)
