MindanaoHerald | 24K bags of rice are given to DavOr by OVP | DAVAO CITY – The Office of the Vice President (OVP) gave 24,000 bags of 5-kilogram rice to the people of Davao Oriental province on Tuesday to help them recover from the floods and landslides that happened there.

The gift was given to the government of Davao Oriental, and 13,000 bags were set aside for Mati City.

Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat of Mati City said she wanted the Vice President’s gift to go to specific groups, like fishermen, single parents, bike drivers and drivers’ association members, and people with disabilities.

The OVP gave 15 wheelchairs to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division in Mati along with the bags of rice.

“We thanked VP Duterte for always being there for Matinians during disasters.” She also gave 300 sacks of rice to the people of Matina as a Christmas gift in December 2023, Rabat said.

At the same time, the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-11) were happy to see the Philippine Navy’s LD602 arrive at the Globalport Davao Terminal on Sunday with 40,800 family food packs.

People brought the food packs to the DSWD-11 warehouse. They will then be sent to local government units that were hit by the recent shear line and trough of the low-pressure area in the region. (via PNA)
